Arrested suspect in Cancún linked to Cuban-American mafia

Cancún, Mexico — A coordinated operation in Cancún resulted in the capture of Remigio “N”, a suspected member of an international criminal cell and a person of interest to the FBI, according to security authorities.

The detainee is accused of probable involvement in drug-related crimes and possession of a firearm reserved for exclusive use by the Mexican Army.

Investigated by the FBI and Linked to Organized Crime

The arrest took place on Huayacán Avenue in the municipality of Benito Juárez during surveillance patrols conducted by the Centurión Group of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, in coordination with the Secretariat of the Navy and the Secretariat of National Defense.

Authorities reported that Remigio “N” was listed as a priority target in the state’s criminal atlas due to his alleged links to a Cuban-American network involved in human trafficking and to an affiliate of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Additionally, he has a criminal record for robbery in the state of Florida and was under active surveillance by the FBI.

Items Seized from the FBI-Targeted Suspect

During the inspection, various items allegedly related to illicit activities were seized:

  • Backpack
  • 72 small bags containing green vegetable matter with characteristics of marijuana
  • 81 small bags with crystalline fragments similar to crystal meth
  • 240 pesos in cash
  • Handgun with magazine
  • 13 cartridges of 9 mm caliber
  • 10 cartridges of 5.56 mm caliber
  • Cell phone

Finally, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Retail Drug Trafficking, which will determine his legal status.
