Quintana Roo, Mexico — Mahahual, a coastal gem in southern Quintana Roo, has been named one of three finalists in the "Best Beach to Discover in 2025" category by the prestigious México Desconocido magazine. The recognition was announced during the 2025 Tianguis Turístico, one of Mexico’s most prominent tourism promotion events.
A National Honor for Mahahual
The public vote placed Mahahual alongside Zipolite in Oaxaca and the category winner, Lo de Marcos in Nayarit. The beach stood out for its crystal-clear waters, serene atmosphere, and expanding tourism offerings.
Local authorities celebrated the achievement, emphasizing regional pride and ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and destination promotion.
Officials Express Pride and Commitment
Yensunni Martínez Hernández, municipal president of Othón P. Blanco, expressed enthusiasm for the recognition.
"We are very pleased to have secured a spot among the top three. This distinction not only promotes Mahahual but also generates interest in exploring more of southern Quintana Roo," she stated.
Martínez Hernández urged residents of Chetumal and Mahahual to act as ambassadors for their region.
"Speaking negatively about our city harms its image and future. It is crucial for Chetumal’s residents to proudly share what we have to offer," she emphasized.
Beatriz Alamilla, the municipal tourism director, also welcomed the accolade.
"We were nominated in a very special category and earned recognition as one of the three finalists," she noted.
Challenges and Future Plans
While celebrating the achievement, Martínez Hernández acknowledged remaining challenges, including improving infrastructure and basic services. However, she affirmed her administration’s dedication to advancing the area’s tourism development.
"We know resources are limited, but with determination, we can create action programs to boost our tourism offerings. We will continue pushing forward with strength," she concluded.
The recognition at Tianguis Turístico 2025 highlights Mahahual’s growing appeal as a must-visit destination in Mexico.
