Las Palapas Park Vendors Upgrading to Wooden Stalls!

Las Palapas Park in Cancún is set to undergo a transformation as local vendors, who have been operating from tricycles for years, will soon be trading from wooden stalls. This move is part of a wider effort to improve the park's image and create a more organized trading environment.

The plan, outlined by Jesús Ayuso, the director of commerce in public areas, involves the installation of eight wooden modules, creating a total of 32 spaces. These will be assigned to vendors currently operating on Tulum Avenue. The aim is to enhance the recently remodeled park's image and replace the tricycles, particularly those selling light meals and snacks such as corn on the cob, esquites, marquesitas and churros.

Before the park's remodeling, there were 100 traders operating. The same number will continue to operate, but in a more organized manner. The modules will be installed in the park area and on Tulum Avenue, contributing to a commercial and cultural circuit in the city's heart, made up of permanent businesses and commercial islands.

Ayuso stated, "We are no longer going to have the tricycles. We're designing these spaces for our merchants. We will have the modules divided into 4, where they will be more comfortable and in an orderly manner.”

The reorganization of street commerce has taken several months for the municipal government as they aim to offer orderly commercial options. The plan involves the creation of eight wooden modules, with a total of 32 spaces that will be assigned to traders who have complied with their obligations and hold the necessary licenses.

Salvador Diego Alarcón, the municipal secretary of public works and services, noted that they are continuing to refine details in Las Palapas Park. The aim is to not only organize the vendors but also the play areas and spaces created to meet the needs of the thousands of families who visit the park daily. He also mentioned that they are seeking support to properly arrange the space formerly occupied by the Blanquita cinema to operate as a parking lot. This lot is currently being used for this purpose, but he said that it still requires conditioning.
