Chetumal, Quintana Roo — A 32-year-old man who was abducted in downtown Chetumal early Monday was found severely beaten before dawn Tuesday, more than 24 hours after he disappeared, according to unofficial reports.
Eduardo Andrés Ávila Valencia was located lying on the ground and still conscious at the intersection of Avenida Nicolás Bravo and Calle Haití, in front of Parque de la Juventud in the Caribe subdivision. He had suffered severe blows across his body, according to the accounts.
When he was found, Ávila Valencia was shirtless, barefoot and carrying a blue T-shirt over his shoulder.
Family members had launched an intensive search from the first hours of Monday after learning he had been taken against his will at about 6 a.m. at the intersection of Avenida Independencia and Othón P. Blanco street in the Centro neighborhood.
Officials have not publicly confirmed the circumstances of either the abduction or the discovery.
