MEXICO CITY — Mexican actress Kate del Castillo has revealed that she was involved in a life-threatening diving accident during a night dive in Cancún. The star of "La Reina del Sur" shared the harrowing experience during a recent interview, explaining that she became separated from her professional dive partner and was left alone among the reefs.
The Incident That Pushed Her to the Limit
The actress recounted that the event occurred during a night immersion in the Yucatán Peninsula. Without warning, she lost sight of her professional companion and found herself completely alone. “All I could hear was my own breathing and everything was black. I thought I was going to stay there,” she confessed.
In the midst of the darkness and with the pressure of the sea enveloping her, del Castillo felt she was on the brink of death. Fear overwhelmed her, but it also gave her the strength to stop, breathe calmly, and find a small light that allowed her to escape the situation.
The Lesson Behind the Fear
Beyond the fright, the Mexican actress confessed that this experience did not steal her love for diving. On the contrary, it made her value every moment under the sea more and understand that fear can sometimes become an ally. “Fear can help you calm down, to think. There has to be a way out…,” she reflected.
Her Love for Diving and the Memory of Keiko
During the chat with journalist Mara Patricia Castañeda, Kate also recalled her beginnings in the world of diving, a passion that was born when she worked on the series "Azul." There she had the opportunity to interact with the famous orca Keiko, the same one that starred in the movie "Free Willy."
“What I experienced with Keiko marked me forever. I learned to dive with her on top of me, I traveled with her, I waited for her in Portland… it was something I carry in my heart,” she recounted emotionally.
Kate del Castillo Between Cinema and Life
Today, the actress continues to shine in film and television. Her most recent project, the psychological thriller "Instintos," available on ViX, keeps her in contact with her audience. However, this confession demonstrates that, away from the spotlight, Kate del Castillo is a woman who is not afraid to take risks, live intensely, and share her most vulnerable moments.
