Tulum, Quintana Roo — A security strategy utilizing canine teams has dealt another blow to drug trafficking, thanks to the K-9 Canine Group of the State Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC). The operation led to the arrest of a man identified as Mauricio "N," a suspected individual involved in crimes against public health.
The intervention occurred during a surveillance and inspection patrol at the ADO bus terminal, located on Tulum Avenue.
Kaiser Gives the Alert
The incident unfolded when officers, in the presence of passengers, the bus driver, and a security guard, were conducting a routine inspection of bus number 0477. As they passed by the luggage, the canine named Kaiser made a "positive mark" on a blue plastic travel suitcase, indicating the presence of illicit substances.
Immediately after the mark, one of the passengers, later identified as Mauricio "N," attempted to separate from the group and leave the location. The officers acted quickly, intercepting the individual and requesting his travel ticket, which matched the baggage tag for the suitcase marked by the dog.
Following a formal inspection, the following items were seized: one blue plastic travel suitcase, one transparent synthetic bag containing a white substance with characteristics similar to cocaine, a baggage claim ticket, a travel ticket, and a cell phone.
Both Mauricio "N" and the secured evidence were turned over to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Combating Drug Trafficking, which will continue with the investigation to determine responsibilities.
