José Luis Toledo Fights Back Against Candidacy Cancellation

José Luis “Chanito” Toledo has declared his intention to challenge the Electoral Tribunal of Quintana Roo (Teqroo)'s decision to cancel his candidacy for the council of the Municipality of Solidaridad, representing the PAN-PRI coalition. Toledo has stated that he will soon approach the Regional Chamber Xalapa of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power to file an appeal and defend his political rights. He criticized Teqroo's decision as overreaching and unlawful.

Teqroo had previously invalidated three candidacies from the "Strength and Heart for Mexico" coalition on the grounds that they failed to meet the criteria for affirmative action candidacies. Toledo has countered this by stating that he has hearing difficulties, which should qualify him as an affirmative action candidate.

During a press conference, Toledo stated, "We were notified yesterday at 6 in the evening about the abusive resolution of the Electoral Tribunal of Quintana Roo, outside all legality, but we are already preparing and we have four days to prepare our response and our demand." He confirmed that he will soon approach the Regional Chamber Xalapa of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Power to defend his political rights and reclaim his candidacy.

Toledo has asked Xalapa to review the affirmative action candidacies from three municipalities of the alliance Strength and Heart for Quintana Roo. The former local deputy expressed his belief that the Morena-PT-PVEM coalition fears a decisive victory of the PRI-PAN alliance in Solidaridad.
