Jorge Portilla Aims to ‘Rescue’ Tulum, Denies Interest in Quintana Roo Governorship

Tulum, Mexico — Jorge Portilla Mánica, a Movimiento Ciudadano councilor and candidate for Tulum mayor, said his objective is to “rescue” the municipality and denied any interest in running for Quintana Roo governor in the upcoming election.

Portilla made the statement in a brief communication, where he also clarified that his recent meeting with Rafael Marín Mollinedo, the director general of Customs and a Morena gubernatorial aspirant, was a “meeting of friends.”

“I’m not interested in the governorship; I will continue working for Tulum. We must rescue it from how they have it. My godfather is the people,” he said.

The councilor noted he has received suggestions to lead a gubernatorial campaign but remains focused on Tulum.

“Today, the people of Tulum want it to return to being a place where hope becomes reality, a place where dreams can materialize, living in peace and harmony with their fellow citizens,” he added.

Portilla said his meeting with Marín addressed political topics but not to “conspire.” Instead, they aimed to foster responsible political leadership that encourages productive businesses to reduce the state’s dependence on tourism.

Despite belonging to different parties, Portilla said he and Marín share a conviction to form a “government of citizens and for the citizens.”
