Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC) has announced the opening of Relato del país de la luz (Tale of the Land of Light), a photographic and sculptural exhibition by Japanese artist Kenji Endo. The event will take place on Friday, August 15, at 8:00 p.m. at the Museo de la Isla, with free admission to the public.

A Career Shaped by Global Influences

Kenji Endo, originally from Saitama Prefecture and raised near Tokyo, developed his artistic vocation under the influence of a vibrant and diverse cultural environment. He studied three-dimensional sculpture at Musashino Art University and continued his training at Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts.

Isela Carrillo Cupul, director of the Museo de la Isla, noted that Endo’s career spans internationally, including studies in France, Germany, and Ireland, as well as solo and group exhibitions in Japan, the United States, Mexico, Spain, and other European countries.

A Fusion of Manga, Anime, and Space Exploration

Endo’s artistic style blends influences from manga and anime with a strong interest in space exploration, inspired by the Cold War-era space race he witnessed during his childhood. The artist finds affinity with narratives from the Star Wars film saga and the Gundam anime series, which imagine space colonies and humanity’s evolution in the cosmos.

Exhibition Highlights

Relato del país de la luz will feature 14 large-format photographs of works previously exhibited worldwide, alongside an original sculpture created in a Cozumel welding workshop. The sculpture draws inspiration from the island’s marine life and coral reefs.

The exhibition promises to offer a unique perspective on Endo’s artistic vision, merging futuristic themes with local influences. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore his multidisciplinary approach, which bridges traditional sculpture with contemporary photographic techniques.

The Museo de la Isla encourages art enthusiasts and the general public to attend the opening, marking a significant cultural event for Cozumel’s artistic community.
