Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Two sailboats will depart from Isla Mujeres on Friday to join the “Nuestra América” flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Cuba, which faces a critical situation due to a U.S. blockade.
A ship loaded with food, medicine, and other essential items set sail from Puerto Progreso on Thursday. The initiative, which includes Brazilian activist Thiego Ávila, has collected nearly five tons of aid, including several solar panels.
Various groups have organized an artistic-musical event at 5 p.m. at the Manglares port in Isla Mujeres before the sailboats depart. The event was originally scheduled for noon but was moved to the afternoon.
The sailboats will carry medicine and other items collected in Quintana Roo through various volunteers, including Playa del Carmen’s “Café Zapatista.” The flotilla is expected to reach Cuba on Saturday.
