Mayor Atenea Gómez at the inauguration of the new sports dome and Pelicanos children's park in Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde inaugurated the Pelicanos children’s park and a new sports dome in the Electricistas neighborhood, part of the municipality’s effort to improve public spaces for families.

The project aims to promote family togetherness, physical activity, and provide safe areas for children, youth, and adults. The mayor said the work is part of a strategy to recover and upgrade common-use spaces, offering more recreation and sports opportunities while strengthening the social fabric.

Renovations included dismantling old equipment and fully rehabilitating the sports court. Workers built bleachers, restrooms, an access module, and a store. They installed synthetic grass, playground equipment, a perimeter fence, and general lighting. The project also added sports and urban equipment, video surveillance points, and free Wi-Fi.

Gómez said her administration will continue promoting projects that improve quality of life and create safer, more accessible, and functional environments for all residents.
