Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde announced a comprehensive program for Women’s Month, featuring activities throughout March aimed at promoting gender equality, respect, and empowerment.
Gómez Ricalde presented the “Women’s Month, for equality, respect and empowerment” agenda, emphasizing its goal to build a more just and respectful society. The program focuses on participation, well-being, and strengthening women’s rights.
The schedule begins Monday, March 2, with a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Esplanade on the island and the Community Center Plaza in the Continental Zone. Activities conclude March 30 with a forum titled “For a life free of violence” at 6 p.m. at the Community Center Plaza in the Continental Zone.
Throughout the month, organizers will offer fitness classes, self-defense workshops, community outreach events, nutrition and personal development talks, and expression spaces including “Voices That Dream” and a Women’s Council. The program also includes youth forums, cultural gatherings, and activities focused on reflection, self-esteem building, and autonomy.
Sports events will promote healthy coexistence, teamwork, and safe environments while encouraging self-care and a culture of respect in public and social life.
