Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — To strengthen security in Isla Mujeres by reinforcing surveillance, prevention, and timely response efforts, the Municipal Government led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde has created the first Tactical Drone Unit of the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat.

Municipal Citizen Security Secretary Christian Linares Gómez highlighted that eight personnel from his department were trained by the Itzamná Drone Group of the Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat at the C5 Security Complex facilities, alongside police officers from the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, José María Morelos, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

“Our personnel were trained for two weeks, equivalent to 80 hours, on the responsible and efficient use of RPA Drones in the latest technology models ‘Dji Mabi3 and Dji Matrice 4t,’ acquiring theoretical, practical, technical, and regulatory knowledge for their operation,” stated General Commissioner Linares Gómez.

He added that for the formation of the Tactical Drone Unit, two tactical drones are available, which will enable aerial surveillance activities, tracking, searches, and target location through the capture of quality images and videos at strategic points. This will assist other emergency areas, Civil Protection and Firefighters, and search cells for missing persons, serving as a useful tool for reaching difficult-to-access zones or locations.

Linares Gómez reiterated that this new unit aims to strengthen technological capacity and security strategy through drone deployment both on the island and in the Continental Zone, prioritizing tourist areas and high-traffic points, as well as mass events, such as the recent 2026 New Year’s Grand Dance.

With these actions, the Municipal Government continues to reinforce its commitment to the safety of island families and the thousands of tourists who visit the destination daily.
