Isla Mujeres, QR. – As a result of the Permanent Cleanup Program, the Municipal Government achieved the collection of over 530 tons of junk in Isla Mujeres throughout 2025, reported the administration headed by Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde.
The Director General of Public Services, Santiago Quiñones Fernández, explained that this year the program was strengthened with the objective of generating cleaner and more orderly environments, in addition to reducing breeding sites for mosquitoes that transmit diseases such as dengue, zika, and chikungunya. He indicated that the junk collection service in Isla Mujeres is now performed twice a week.
He specified that the collection days are carried out every Wednesday and Friday, both in the island zone and in the Continental Zone, and are complemented with three weekly rechecks to reinforce the junk removal work in Isla Mujeres in previously attended neighborhoods.
The official highlighted that citizen collaboration has been key to achieving these results, as the proper disposal of junk in Isla Mujeres contributes to improving the urban image and strengthening preventive actions in public health matters.
Furthermore, he reminded that families can request the cleanup service through the direct line of Public Services, at number 998 404 8900, for the removal of furniture, appliances, and other unused objects, which allows expanding the coverage of the junk program in Isla Mujeres.
Finally, municipal authorities reiterated the call to the population to continue participating in these actions, stating that the timely elimination of junk in Isla Mujeres is fundamental to maintaining a clean, orderly municipality with better well-being conditions for the community.
