Isla Mujeres, Q. Roo — As part of the ongoing Luz y Vida "Between the Living and the Dead" Festival, the Isla Mujeres government, led by Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde, celebrated the highly successful Catrín-Arte "Festival of Catrinas." The event filled the Municipal Explanada with color, tradition, and art for an evening dedicated to honoring local roots and strengthening the cultural identity of the island's residents.

During the event, Hidalgo Street, the heart of Isla Mujeres, became a living stage where island families gathered to enjoy the traditional "Walking with the Souls" procession. This symbolic walk recalled the union between life and death, illuminating the avenue with the brilliance of the Catrinas, Catrines, and the music characteristic of the season.

Atenea Gómez emphasized that this type of activity strengthens the social fabric and promotes pride in the Mexican customs that give Isla Mujeres its identity.

"Preserving our traditions is also preserving our history; it is an act of love for our land and for those who came before us," expressed Atenea Gómez in her address to attendees.

At the Municipal Explanada, the artistic program included performances by local groups such as Alma Caribeña and Añoranzas de Isla Mujeres, as well as a participation by Salvador Díaz Amaya, who offered the public a musical journey full of energy and emotion. A Catrinas Contest was also held, where participants paraded with creativity and pride, showcasing outfits that fused tradition with contemporary art.

The Municipal President led the awards ceremony, recognizing the effort and originality of those who took part in the contest.

The evening concluded with a performance by the show "Esto sí es Despecho," which delivered a spectacular concert that had the audience singing and dancing, closing with joy a night dedicated to memory, culture, and identity.

The Catrín-Arte "Festival of Catrinas" is part of a series of activities that the Isla Mujeres City Council is carrying out within the Luz y Vida "Between the Living and the Dead" Festival, which over several days will fill different spaces in the municipality with color, tradition, and art.
