Playa del Carmen, Mexico — An initiative to voluntarily connect business security cameras with the C4 command center was presented by Councilwoman Marián Solís Arriaga, president of the City Commission on Industry, Commerce, and Agricultural Affairs.

The councilwoman explained that the measure seeks to have businesses voluntarily connect their cameras to the C4, in accordance with the Municipal Development Plan to lower robbery rates in commercial establishments, in addition to the prevention of other crimes.

This initiative was delivered by members of the Commission to the secretary general of the Playa del Carmen municipal government, Luis Herrera Quiam, for his review so that it can be presented at an Ordinary Session of the City Council for approval.

According to Solís Arriaga, the initiative focuses on leveraging the video surveillance systems already in place at micro, small, and medium-sized businesses, offering the possibility of a voluntary connection to the C4 Center.

"This integration aims to deter crimes, streamline the response of authorities, and promote citizen collaboration for greater security," commented the councilwoman.

All of this is based on the Municipal Development Plan 2024-2027, specifically its Axis 3, "Recovering Peace," which establishes the policy action "Technology in Crime Prevention."

This is predicated on the recognition that Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises represent 99.8 percent of establishments in the country. This data, according to the councilwoman's statement of motives, has been translated to Playa del Carmen, where retail commerce is the predominant sector in the tourist locality.

Marian Solís, as well as council members Javier Santos Morales and Saúl Barbosa, who make up this City Commission on Industry, Commerce, and Agricultural Affairs, agreed that public security is the principal concern of Mexicans, hence the origin of this initiative.

Although security has been reinforced in Playa del Carmen under the current administration, there are still isolated cases of robberies of businesses, primarily in the popular zone of the city.
