Influencer’s fake body discovery in Cancún sparks outrage

Cancún, Mexico — During the early hours of Friday, an alleged discovery of an abandoned body was broadcast live on the YouTube channel KRIZZIRIDEREXPLORARION, causing alarm among users and search groups. According to reports, the content creator (identified as an influencer) allegedly faked the discovery of a corpse in a path near Federal Highway 180, just meters from the deviation to the Cancún-Mérida highway.

Within seconds, the broadcast reached a high number of views. In the comments, followers urged immediate notification of authorities; however, this did not occur during the transmission.

Search Groups Alert Authorities

Later, screenshots of the video began circulating on social media groups composed of searching mothers and collectives of people with missing relatives. Concerned, they were the ones who alerted authorities to verify the veracity of the alleged discovery.

Municipal and ministerial elements, along with members of search collectives, went to the site during the early hours and conducted an operation walking through the underbrush. As minutes passed and with no evidence found, the hopes of those searching for a missing family member faded amid the cold and darkness.

Operation Canceled and Call for Attention

After several minutes of searching, the operation was canceled as no body or evidence confirming what was broadcast on the channel was located. Authorities reported that the report turned out to be false.

Finally, a call for attention was issued to citizens and content creators not to play with the pain of families who maintain hope of finding a loved one.
