Cancún, Quintana Roo — Users of the IMSS hospital located in Cancún’s Region 510 have accused the existence of an alleged network dedicated to blood trafficking, with possible involvement of internal staff. Reportedly, vulnerable citizens are lured with monetary offers that are later not fulfilled.

Two individuals who lost their jobs 18 days ago, after completing construction work, recounted that they agreed to donate plasma after being offered 800 pesos, but were never paid and the person who contacted them disappeared.

“We accepted because we had no other way to bring money home,” they stated.

Hospital workers, who requested anonymity, confirmed that complaints are constant and that the same schemes are also allegedly occurring at the Cancún Regional Blood Bank, belonging to Sanitary Jurisdiction number 2, as well as at the “Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez” General Hospital.

“Some do get paid, but less than promised. They offer up to a thousand pesos, but after donating they give them 300 or 500, if they complain. Others get nothing,” indicated hospital employees.

The testimonies coincided that no one clearly informs about the destination of the donated blood, and there is suspicion that it could be being resold to private clinics, without transparent tracking or control.

A consulted physician, who also requested identity confidentiality for fear of reprisals, warned that the buying and selling of blood is a serious crime that endangers both donors and recipients.

He commented that when money is involved, medical protocol is broken, questionnaires are falsified, medical histories are omitted, and the risk of transmitting diseases increases. “Blood should only be obtained through voluntary, altruistic, and regulated donation,” he stated.

The physician warned that, if these practices are confirmed, it would constitute a serious violation of sanitary norms, trafficking of medical supplies, and possible institutional corruption.

No health authority has issued an official position, while accusations continue to accumulate, without being publicly investigated, despite the risks they would imply.
