On Wednesday, the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama, announced that the Ichkabal archaeological site, situated in the Bacalar municipality, is expected to open to the public in September. The opening ceremony for the site is being planned for the early part of the month to coincide with a visit from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In addition to the Ichkabal site, the Quintana Roo Park and Jaguar Park are also set to open. These openings are part of a wider initiative, the Archaeological Zone Improvement Program, which has recently concluded. This program focused on the restoration and conservation of various archaeological areas.

Governor Lezama spoke enthusiastically about the upcoming openings, stating "Quintana Roo Park is shaping up beautifully, and it will be inaugurated alongside Jaguar Park and the archaeological zones on the 6th, 7th and 8th of September. The investment in Ichkabal has been substantial and we anticipate its opening this year, likely in September."
