Venezuelan Women Rescued in Cancún Trafficking Bust

Cancún, Mexico — Two Venezuelan women were rescued following a police raid on a residential building in the Supermanzana 4 district. The women are alleged victims of a human trafficking network operating for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

The raid was executed by the Policía de Investigación (Investigation Police) after field and intelligence investigations revealed the presence of foreign women offering sexual services for payments ranging from five hundred to one thousand pesos. According to the investigation, the women were required to pay a 100-peso fee to another individual.

The Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo (Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo) issued a statement confirming that an investigation file has been initiated by the Fiscalía Especializada en Combate a Delitos de Trata y Explotación de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes (Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Combating Human Trafficking and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents). The file pertains to the crime of trafficking in its modality of pimping, against whoever is found responsible.

Authorities discovered a log of collections at the location, which registered weekly earnings averaging between 5,000 and 6,000 pesos. The property was secured by authorities as evidence.

The two foreign women were transported to the Ministerio Público (Public Prosecutor's Office) to provide their official statements as investigative procedures continue.
