Tulum, Quintana Roo — The municipality of Tulum is preparing for a series of cultural and gastronomic events in August, including three major festivals. Mayor Diego Castañón announced the upcoming Honey Festival on August 9, the Lobster Festival in Punta Allen from August 15 to 17, and a Beer Festival at the end of the month.

Economic and Cultural Boost

During his weekly press conference, Castañón also revealed plans for the inauguration of the "Mercado de la Prosperidad Compartida" (Shared Prosperity Market) at the Dos Aguas park in Tulum on July 25. The market will feature artisans from Bacalar and José María Morelos selling their products.

"The artisans from Bacalar and José María Morelos will come here to sell their crafts, which will help stimulate the local economy and support our southern municipalities," Castañón said. "These initiatives will greatly benefit residents in rural areas."

Infrastructure and Public Services

The mayor highlighted additional developments, including the remodeling of the Municipal Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center (CRIM) in celebration of its anniversary. He also announced the delivery of three new ambulances in Akumal, acknowledging the support of Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama and State Health Secretary Flavio Carlos Rosado.

"These ambulances will be crucial for our citizens, ensuring faster emergency response times and timely hospital transfers," Castañón stated.

Tourism and Environmental Efforts

Castañón emphasized ongoing efforts to clean sargassum from local beaches, a collaboration between the Navy and hotel operators. "This is vital because tourism is our livelihood," he said.

The mayor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to progress, stating, "We are a government of transformation—we build, not destroy."

Upcoming Events Summary

  • July 25: Inauguration of Shared Prosperity Market
  • August 9: Honey Festival
  • August 15–17: Lobster Festival in Punta Allen
