Cancún — The Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, will conduct an official visit to Tulum this Wednesday, November 12, with the objective of following up on the working groups established nearly a month ago to define a comprehensive strategy for the destination's restructuring. This initiative comes after a series of negative comments have affected its tourism image at the national and international levels.
Rodríguez Zamora to Evaluate Progress with Mara Lezama
During her tour, Rodríguez Zamora will be accompanied by the Governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, with whom she will evaluate the progress of the commitments established between the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the State Government, and the municipality of Tulum. These commitments are focused on strengthening tourism infrastructure, improving the destination's perception, and guaranteeing free access to the beaches.
This visit is part of the actions undertaken after statements from President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, who in October described the restriction of access to Tulum's beaches as "illegal" and announced a coordinated rescue plan between the federal government, the state government, and Sectur. The aim is to recover visitor confidence and organize the destination's development.
Among the most recent advances stemming from these working groups is the announcement of four new public and free access points to Tulum's beaches, as well as the definition of fees for the Jaguar Park, which will start from 60 pesos. These measures seek to guarantee the enjoyment of the natural heritage for locals and tourists, in addition to balancing the relationship between conservation and tourism development.
Key Visit from Federal Official
The visit of Rodríguez Zamora will be key to evaluating the first results of this inter-institutional strategy and defining the next steps in the recovery of Tulum's image, one of the most emblematic destinations of the Mexican Caribbean.
