Cancun, Quintana Roo — A 26-year-old man died at a hospital after being shot in the Supermanzana 67 neighborhood, authorities said. The victim, identified as Joel Gerardo, a cook who lived in the Urbi Villas housing complex, succumbed to his injuries hours after the attack.
The shooting occurred around 3:15 a.m. Saturday. According to initial investigations, Gerardo had just left his job and was arriving at a friend’s home when he was struck by multiple bullets. One round hit his left arm and penetrated his chest, perforating a lung.
Red Cross paramedics provided first aid at the scene on Calle 36, near the intersection of Avenidas Francisco I. Madero and Miguel Hidalgo, and transported him to the IMSS specialty clinic in Supermanzana 509. Hospital staff later reported his death.
State Prosecutor’s Office investigators arrived at the hospital to collect the body and spoke with the victim’s sister, who said she did not know the motive for the attack. Police found several spent shell casings scattered on the street near the site.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
