Los Angeles, USA – Google Translate, one of the most robust translation applications available online, has launched a new version.
Beyond being capable of translating 103 different languages, Google Translate has improved since its launch, with features like Word Lens, which uses a smartphone camera and augmented reality to instantly translate written text.
The application includes some improvements in the 5.0 update that make it easier to use for people around the world.
First, the offline mode of Google Translate is arriving on iOS. To use a language in offline mode, it is necessary to download the language pack through the application. Previously, these downloads weighed around 250 MB each, but Google has compressed them to approximately 25 MB each, making better use of phone storage. The offline mode has already been available for Android users.
Now the Word Lens translation feature can translate into Chinese, the 29th language that works with Word Lens. Text can be translated from simplified Chinese to English or vice versa.
According to Google, more than 90 percent of this application’s users are outside the USA, so the company is focusing on other countries.
INSTANTLY TRANSLATE WHATSAPP MESSAGES
On the other hand, if you are tired of the tedious task of copying text to then go to the desktop, open the Google Translate application, and paste it, there is now a solution.
The tech giant launched the new Tap to Translate tool (which arrives alongside Google Translate 5.0), which speeds up the procedure by allowing translation to be brought to any application, including WhatsApp, on any Android phone with Jellybean (4.2), reports ‘USA Today’.
To do this, you only need to copy the text and paste it into a floating window that will instantly appear in the upper right part of the screen.
Likewise, it is possible to translate offline to 52 languages (each dictionary will weigh 25 megabytes) and online to 103 languages.
