Gas Leak Ignites in Cancun Apartment, Injures Two

Emergency responders at the scene of a gas leak fire in a Cancun apartment building

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A gas leak sparked a flash fire in a Cancun apartment Wednesday evening, leaving two people injured, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Punta Yoquen Street in the Supermanzana 24 neighborhood. Emergency crews arrived to find that accumulated LP gas had ignited, causing a sudden burst of flames.

A woman suffered burns to her hair and scalp, and an elderly man experienced a panic attack. Both were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Firefighters and civil protection personnel brought the situation under control, eliminated the risk of further leaks, and inspected the building. No significant property damage was reported.

The area was cordoned off while crews completed safety checks. Once the risk was cleared, authorities reopened the street and left the scene.
