Emergency Response Mobilized
Neighbors alerted emergency services after hearing a loud blast originating from one of the homes. Firefighters, paramedics, and municipal police quickly arrived at the scene.
During rescue operations, firefighters discovered the homeowner suffering from second- and third-degree burns. He was transported in critical condition to Playa del Carmen General Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
A security guard who attempted to enter the burning home to rescue the man also sustained injuries but was treated on-site for non-life-threatening wounds. Two minors nearby were evaluated for shock but showed no physical injuries.
Property Destroyed, Area Secured
The explosion completely destroyed the house. Authorities immediately cordoned off the area to assess structural damage, prevent further risks, and facilitate debris removal.
Specialized personnel from Civil Protection and forensic experts are investigating the incident, with preliminary findings pointing to a gas buildup inside the residence as the cause.
Vehicular and pedestrian access was temporarily restricted to ensure public safety while inspections were conducted to rule out additional gas leaks. Officials urge residents to regularly inspect gas installations and report any unusual odors or irregularities.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
