Rescue Dogs Need Your Help to Fly to Canadian Homes!

Alma Animal Tulum is on a mission to find new homes for dogs in Canada.

Every dog that is adopted in Canada creates room at the shelter for another animal in need in Tulum.

For nearly three years, Alma Animal Tulum has been rescuing dogs and cats from abusive and neglected situations in Quintana Roo, a town known as one of Mexico's top tourist destinations. Despite its popularity, the town has a significant population of abandoned animals. Currently, the shelter is home to 158 animals waiting for their forever homes.

In the past, there have been instances where local adopters did not adequately care for the animals. As a result, the shelter is now seeking homes in Canada, where animal welfare is prioritized and families are ready to provide a loving and safe environment.

"We decided to broaden our search for adoptive families abroad, particularly in Canada," said Carmen Torres, one of the shelter's founders. "To ensure the animals are healthy enough to travel, we need to conduct necessary health checks. This will not only improve their lives by finding them good homes but also allow us to continue rescuing more animals in need here in Tulum."

To cover the costs of these health checks, which are required for international animal transport, the shelter has started a Go Fund Me campaign. The goal is to raise 20,000 pesos for the animals' medical examinations and to ensure the dogs can comfortably adapt to their new homes.

"We are dedicated to improving these animals' lives by finding them good homes abroad," Torres added. "This will also allow us to free up space and resources to continue rescuing many more animals in need here in Tulum. Every dog that finds a home in Canada opens up a space in the shelter for another animal to be rescued, rehabilitated, and eventually adopted."
