Free Internet Reaches Over 36,000 Families in Quintana Roo

SIM cards being distributed as part of the Conecta Quintana Roo free internet program

Quintana Roo Mexico — More than 36,000 families across all 11 municipalities of Quintana Roo now have access to free internet and cellular phone services as part of the state’s Conecta Quintana Roo program, the State Welfare Secretariat announced.

Pablo Bustamante, head of the department, said the program aims to expand digital connectivity and reduce household spending on communication services, with a goal of benefiting 50,000 people.

Bustamante explained that starting Tuesday and running through February 6, a special SIM card distribution drive will target individuals who were unable to enroll in the program during 2025.

Each beneficiary receives, at no cost for one year, 15 gigabytes of internet data, 1,500 calling minutes, 1,000 text messages, and unlimited access to social media platforms. Officials said this provides direct economic support to households and boosts digital inclusion in both urban and rural communities.

State authorities emphasized that the scheme seeks to close the technology gap and facilitate access to education, official procedures, and communication, particularly for vulnerable sectors.
