Cozumel, Mexico — The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) has extended an invitation to the public for the inauguration of the pictorial exhibition "Todos llegan primero y todos llegan al último" by artist Alejandra Morales Garza. The event will take place on Friday, June 13, at 8:00 p.m. at the Museo de la Isla, with free admission.
A Celebration of Latin American Identity
The exhibition features a collection of 14 acrylic paintings in which Morales Garza explores global perceptions of Latin America, interrogating narratives shaped by distance and exoticism. Her work draws inspiration from the style of French painter Henri Rousseau, who depicted Latin American jungles despite never leaving France.
"I aim to capture some of the things I most admire about Latin America: its colors, its fauna, its joy, and the lightness with which we often navigate life's difficulties," the artist explained.
The exhibition’s title, revealed in a dream, reflects on themes of memory, temporality, and the construction of narratives about the region. "Who do we believe when stories about Latin America are told? The one who arrived first or the one who arrived last?" Morales Garza posed.
A Recognized Artist with International Reach
Alejandra Morales Garza, originally from Monterrey, has exhibited her work in museums and galleries across Mexico, Canada, the United States, and Spain. A graduate of McGill University, she holds postgraduate degrees from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of British Columbia. She currently divides her time between Vancouver and Monterrey and is represented by PxP Contemporary and Trove Fine Art.
This marks Morales Garza’s second exhibition at the Museo de la Isla, following her debut in May 2024. She expressed enthusiasm about sharing her art once again with the Cozumel community.
Fostering Access to Art and Culture
Juanita Alonso Marrufo, Director General of the FPMC, emphasized that the exhibition aligns with the foundation’s efforts under the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, to expand access to art and culture across the state.
The exhibition will remain open to the public following its inauguration, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with Morales Garza’s vibrant and thought-provoking work.
