Cancún, Mexico — A four-year-old girl was discovered this morning inside a high-tension metal utility pole belonging to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) in the city’s Region 259. Municipal Public Services workers located the girl wandering alone in the rain near the Arco Vial and Miguel Hidalgo Avenue (Ruta 5).
According to a preliminary report, the employees observed the young child crossing the busy avenue and then taking refuge inside the CFE high-tension metal pole, which was lying on the median. Alarmed by the scene, they immediately notified the 911 emergency number to request police support.
Officers from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) arrived at the location, where they found the little girl hiding inside the tube.
Frightened upon seeing the uniformed officers, the girl retreated further inside, but after several minutes of dialogue and reassurance, she agreed to come out. The minor identified herself as Nancy, four years old, and recounted that her mother had taken her out of her house for no apparent reason, leading her to walk aimlessly until the rain forced her to seek shelter.
While the officers were safeguarding the girl, the emergency system received a second call; this time from a woman reporting the disappearance of her daughter named Nancy. According to her testimony, the young girl had allegedly escaped while she was sleeping, and neighbors later informed her that the child had been located by GEAVIG personnel at the Arco Vial.
The girl was transported to the facilities of the Municipal Police, where she received medical and psychological attention. The case was transferred to the Municipal DIF System, which initiated the corresponding investigation to clarify the events.
