Four Suspected Extortionists Arrested with Drugs in Cancun

Police officers conducting an operation in Cancun, Mexico

Cancun, Mexico — Authorities arrested four men suspected of drug trafficking and extortion in separate operations across Cancun on Thursday, seizing narcotics and three vehicles.

The joint operation involved the State Prosecutor’s Office, the National Guard, and municipal police. Officials said the suspects were part of a criminal group involved in drug sales and extortion in the city.

The first arrest occurred in the Privadas Sacbé neighborhood in superblock 249. Police officers caught two men exchanging what appeared to be marijuana and other substances during a patrol. The suspects, identified as Carlos Daniel N and Erwin David N, attempted to flee but were captured. Authorities seized doses of marijuana, crystal meth, and crack cocaine, along with an Italika motorcycle and a Chevrolet Aveo car.

In a second operation on Chichén Itzá Avenue in superblock 38, security personnel detained two more individuals, Álvaro N and Irving N, after observing them conducting transactions with green vegetable matter believed to be marijuana. A search revealed packages containing suspected marijuana, crystal meth, and crack cocaine. Police also seized a second Chevrolet Aveo vehicle.

Preliminary investigations by the State Prosecutor’s Office indicate the four men belong to a violent criminal organization operating in the municipality, primarily involved in controlling drug sales and collecting extortion payments.

Authorities turned the suspects and evidence over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will compile the investigation file and determine their legal status in the coming hours.
