In Chetumal, QR, a body was discovered on a bridge early Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Juan Carlos "R", a former officer of the Tulum Municipal Police. The body was found wrapped and discarded by a passerby around 3:00 am.
Next to the body was a note stating, "This will happen to those who steal lands". This message suggests the killing may be related to land disputes, a prominent issue in the region. Juan Carlos "R" was a member of the Vigilance Committee of Ejido Calderitas, an area known for such conflicts. It's alleged that he had connections with criminal groups in southern Quintana Roo.
The body was found in the Mártires Antorchistas neighborhood of Chetumal. It was abandoned and wrapped in a sheet, bearing the ominous message.
Officials from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) secured the area around the bridge for investigation and removal of the body.
