Tulum, Quintana Roo — Foreign tourists have reported alleged overcharging at the Nest Tulum beach club, claiming they were charged more than the prices displayed on menus. The discrepancy was documented with a receipt that shows a significant difference between advertised and actual costs.
According to the menu displayed at the establishment, a fresh juice was listed at $11 USD. With the exchange rate of 17 pesos per dollar applied at the venue, the corresponding cost should have been 187 Mexican pesos. However, the payment receipt shows a charge of 250 pesos for a “Green Juice,” plus a 15% service charge, bringing the total to 287.50 pesos — 100.50 pesos more than the menu price.
The receipt, dated February 2 at 2:33 p.m., lists Victor Armando Ectún as the waiter who served the visitors, providing documented evidence of the price difference.
The tourists indicated this may not be an isolated incident, as other visitors have reported similar situations where specific prices are displayed but higher charges are justified by claiming menus are outdated. They said such practices create frustration, distrust, and negative perceptions of the destination among international tourists.
Earlier during their coastal visit, the tourists attempted to enter the Dos Ceibas beach club, where staff asked them to leave their motorcycles unlocked with the explanation that they might need to move them. Suspicious of the request, they decided to leave the establishment.
The documented case highlights concerns about price transparency at Tulum beach clubs and raises questions about consumer protection for international visitors to the popular tourist destination.
