Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A foreign man died suddenly Wednesday night while working out at a gym in Playa del Carmen’s Centro neighborhood, with paramedics suspecting a fatal heart attack.
The incident occurred at The Gym, located on Primera Street at the intersection with 16th Street and Constituyentes Avenue.
According to witnesses, the man collapsed abruptly during his workout in front of other gym users. Staff immediately called emergency services.
Paramedics and police officers arrived minutes later and attempted first aid, but confirmed the man showed no vital signs. They preliminarily attributed the death to a sudden cardiac arrest.
Authorities cordoned off the area to preserve the scene while the body remained inside the establishment, drawing attention from passersby and gym patrons in the busy downtown area.
Forensic specialists from the State Prosecutor’s Office later conducted an investigation, collecting evidence and removing the body to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
Authorities have not yet released the deceased’s identity, age, or nationality as legal procedures continue.
