Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A foreign elderly man was discovered deceased inside an apartment in Playa del Carmen on Sunday. The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition.
Discovery and Initial Reports
The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 15 at a building located at the intersection of Constituyentes Avenue and 35th Avenue. According to authorities, the building’s administrator made the discovery after repeatedly attempting to contact the tenant without success.
The administrator stated that he had tried calling and messaging the man but received no response. After knocking on the apartment door and receiving no answer, he entered the unit and found the elderly foreign national deceased.
The administrator noted that the deceased had a known kidney condition requiring frequent dialysis treatments, though it remains unclear whether this contributed to his death.
Authorities Respond
Municipal police officers from Playa del Carmen and agents from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrived at the scene to begin investigations. Forensic medical personnel (Semefo) collected the remains for transport to the morgue, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Other Recent Deaths of Foreigners in Riviera Maya
This incident follows another recent case involving a foreign national in Playa del Carmen. On March 28, a man believed to be a foreign barber was found dead in the Las Palmas neighborhood.
Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a foul odor at a residence on Palma Parasol Street. Upon entering the property, officers discovered a decomposing body. Initial reports suggested the man may have died by suicide, as a belt was found around his neck. However, investigators have not ruled out the possibility of homicide.
The circumstances surrounding both deaths remain under investigation.
