Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún International Airport reported significant flight disruptions on U.S. routes Monday, with 22 cancellations and delays attributed to operational problems stemming from the partial U.S. government shutdown and staffing issues at the Federal Aviation Administration.

Airport authorities said the cancellations affected both arrivals and departures to the United States, with airlines advising passengers to monitor updated itineraries. The disruptions occurred during a busy day that saw 585 total flight operations at the airport — 294 arrivals and 291 departures.

Of the affected U.S.-bound flights, 11 were departures and 11 were arrivals destined for Kansas City, Baltimore, Orlando, Chicago, St. Louis, Houston, Nashville, Denver, and Phoenix.

The U.S. government deployed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to 14 American airports Monday to help with crowd control amid growing Transportation Security Administration staff shortages and resignations.
