Cancún, January 20. The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) reported that, following an operation conducted at a bar in the Benito Juárez municipality, five women allegedly victims of human trafficking were located, in addition to the arrest of two individuals for their probable involvement in these events.
According to the agency, the raid resulted from an investigation led by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Human Trafficking Crimes, which gathered sufficient evidence to request a judicial order, which was authorized by a Control Judge.
The procedure was carried out in coordination with elements of the Navy Secretariat, National Guard, and Cancún Municipal Police, at an establishment located on Bonampak Avenue, between 30th East and 36th East streets.
During the operation, authorities located five women, four of Mexican nationality and one Guatemalan, who were allegedly forced to engage in activities related to prostitution.
Initial investigations indicate that the women were soliciting clients within the establishment, with an approximate charge of 200 pesos per drink, in addition to offering sexual services outside the bar, with rates ranging from one thousand to two thousand pesos, depending on time and modality.
The ministerial investigation indicates that the establishment retained 50 percent of the earnings, which constitutes the crime of human trafficking. As a result of the raid, two individuals were detained and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine their legal status.
The FGE reported that the women were sheltered and referred to specialized institutions to receive comprehensive care, while investigations continue to determine responsibilities.
Finally, the Attorney General’s Office reiterated its commitment to combat human trafficking head-on and guarantee the protection of victims in Quintana Roo.
