Quintana Roo, Mexico — In 2026, Quintana Roo will reinforce the presence of rural and municipal police forces with the construction of police bases in five municipalities, aiming to minimize and inhibit criminal activities.
According to reports from the Quintana Roo State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), throughout this year, the first stage of the Holbox Police and Firefighters Base in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas will be built, as well as the first stage of the Rural Police Base in Muyil, in the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
Additionally, construction will begin on the first stage of the Rural Police Base in Miguel Hidalgo, in the municipality of Bacalar; the first stage of the Rural Police Base in Caobas, in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco; and the first stage of the facilities for the Puerto Morelos Municipality Citizen Security Barracks.
Furthermore, Seop is carrying out improvements to the Othón P. Blanco Municipal Public Jail in its second stage, and the construction and reinforcement of the Cancún City Penitentiary Center in the municipality of Benito Juárez.
Similarly, the following projects are underway:
- The adaptation of the perimeter fence, platform (civic plaza), and remodeling of bathrooms at the General Directorate of Public Security, Transit, and Firefighters of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Municipality, in its first stage.
- The construction of the vehicle customs gate and installation of exterior perimeter fences at the Cozumel Penitentiary Center, in its first stage.
- The construction of the Specialized Center for Addressing Civic Infractions in the Tulum Municipality, in its first stage.
According to statistics from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, from 2024 to 2025, the incidence of high-impact common law crimes in Quintana Roo decreased by 4.1%.
In 2024, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) registered 53,628 complaints for high-impact common law crimes in the state’s 11 municipalities, while in 2025, it opened 55,842 investigation files for this type of incident in the entity.
