Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The state of Quintana Roo has recorded 42 COVID-19 cases in 2025 after five new infections were confirmed in the week spanning July 8 to July 14, according to the latest report from the federal Ministry of Health (Ssa). Meanwhile, the Quintana Roo State Health Secretariat (Sesa) has ceased publishing its weekly updates on the disease without explanation.

Rising Case Counts and Unchanged Death Toll

The federal report, dated July 14, indicates that cumulative infections since 2020 have reached 124,601, while the total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 remains at 4,501.

The federal registry shows that cases recorded in 2025 rose from 37 to 42 during the reporting week. One additional fatality was noted, though the Ssa did not document the death itself—the Sesa had registered it in March.

Nationally, Mexico has reported 5,457 infections and 150 deaths so far this year, with higher incidence among older adults and women.

Lack of Local Data on Hospitalizations and Recoveries

With the Sesa no longer providing updates, key metrics such as hospital occupancy rates in the northern and southern regions of the state remain unknown. It is also unclear how many of the recently reported cases are still active under monitoring or have since recovered.

Before discontinuing its weekly reports, the Sesa had documented 3,658,148 vaccine doses administered since January 2021. No new doses were added to the registry in the most recent week, despite an ongoing seasonal vaccination campaign.

Breakdown of Vaccination Figures by Municipality

As of the last available Sesa data in March:

  • Cozumel: 218,317 doses
  • Felipe Carrillo Puerto: 161,810 doses
  • Isla Mujeres: 42,844 doses
  • Othón P. Blanco: 496,306 doses
  • Benito Juárez: 1,759,900 doses
  • José María Morelos: 80,319 doses
  • Lázaro Cárdenas: 59,108 doses
  • Solidaridad: 630,150 doses
  • Tulum: 90,528 doses
  • Bacalar: 66,300 doses

The total number of recovered patients was last reported at 120,059, but current figures are unavailable. The status of suspected cases under investigation is also unknown.
