5 Charged in Tulum Assault of Colombian Woman

Tulum, Mexico — Five men have been formally charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a Colombian woman in Tulum, according to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office. The suspects, identified as José Benjamín "N" (alias "Cuervo"), Fernando "N", Pablo Ramsés "N", Cristian Yuriel "N", and Luis Ernesto "N", were ordered to stand trial after a judge ruled there was sufficient evidence to proceed.

Details of the Alleged Crime

The incident reportedly occurred on May 16, when Pablo "N" contacted the victim through an online platform, arranging a meeting at an apartment located at the intersection of Osiris Sur and Mercurio Sur streets in Tulum. Upon arrival, the woman was met by Pablo "N" before six additional men entered the premises.

According to the investigation, one of the assailants ordered the others to restrain the victim, cover her mouth with a shirt, and demanded she pay them 2,500 pesos weekly. He then allegedly instructed the group to sexually assault her as a means of intimidation, threatening her with a firearm.

After the assault, the suspects reportedly took photographs of the victim and released her under threats of further violence if she reported the incident. The victim later filed a formal complaint, leading to the arrests of five suspects.

The judge imposed preventive detention for a period of two years or until the conclusion of the trial. Two of the accused, José Benjamín "N" and Fernando "N", have prior criminal records, including charges for homicide and drug-related offenses.

The case has drawn attention to broader concerns about violence against women in the region, with authorities urging victims to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing.
