Five Finalists Chosen for Xmatkuil Fair Ambassador Contest

Five young women selected as finalists from eastern Yucatán stand together at the second semifinal of the Xmatkuil Fair ambassador contest in Espita

Espita, Yucatán — Organizers of the Xmatkuil Fair ambassador contest selected five more finalists on Saturday during the second of three semifinals, held in the town of Espita.

The winners from the eastern region are Yasmín Guadalupe Sierra Güemez of Espita, Samira Selime Coronado Amín of Tizimín, Alejandra Nayeli Guerra Loeza of Valladolid, Josefina Marisol Ávila López of Panabá and Yahaira Grissel Pérez Contreras of Dzidzantún.

They will advance to the final gala, scheduled for October 17 in Mérida.

Representatives from Kaua, Calotmul, Yaxcabá, Tecoh, Cenotillo, Dzilam González, Chemax, San Felipe, Temozón, Temax and Dzoncauich also took part in the Espita semifinal, sharing elements of their towns’ cultural identity on stage.

Contestants competed in evening gowns and later in regional dress, with judges evaluating their poise, knowledge of their communities, personality, preparation and ability to convey the character of their municipalities.

South Region Finalists Already Set

The five eastern finalists join those chosen from the southern region on September 26 in Tzucacab: María Alejandra Cano Solís of Peto, Mariana Evely Novelo Alcete of Tekax, Julieta Maricruz Lara of Muna, Nadia Romina Ávila Sierra of Tzucacab and Effy Paola Puerto Cura of Ticul.

The last five finalists will be selected Saturday, October 10, in Izamal.

Organizers said the contest aims to bring together the state’s 106 municipalities in a showcase of Yucatán’s productive, artisanal and cultural traditions, highlighting the identity and distinctive traits of each community.
