Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Five firefighters from Cozumel will travel to Houston, Texas, to receive training and strengthen their professional qualifications, said Ernesto Álvarez Rosas, a member of the island’s Firefighters Board (Patronato de Bomberos).
Álvarez Rosas said the opportunity will let the participants learn from firefighting practices abroad. He noted that instructors from other countries typically travel to Cozumel to deliver training instead.
The aim, he said, is for the firefighters to gain more knowledge and better tools for their work, so that the preparation they acquire is reflected in the service they provide to the community.
Better Pay Needed
The board member also said professional development must go hand in hand with improved working conditions and salaries for members of the department. Investing in their training benefits both the firefighters and the people of Cozumel, he said.
