Three rescued after drunk driving crash in Playa del Carmen

Vehicle overturned after crashing into a tree on CTM Avenue in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Three people suffered injuries when their vehicle overturned on CTM Avenue in this city of Playa del Carmen due to speeding and alcohol consumption. Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross provided first aid, and minutes later they were transported to a hospital to receive medical attention.

According to authorities, the driver of a vehicle and two companions were traveling on CTM Avenue, between 20th and 25th Streets, in the Luis Donaldo Colosio Murrieta neighborhood when the driver lost control of the steering wheel while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver, allegedly traveling at excessive speed, mounted the central median of the avenue and ended up crashing into a tree before overturning onto the asphalt pavement.

The strong impact of the crash caused alarm among neighbors who, upon noticing the accident, requested help from authorities for immediate attention, as when the automotive unit overturned, the three occupants were not moving after becoming trapped in the vehicle.

Minutes later, Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene and immediately performed rescue maneuvers, while paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross provided first aid to the injured persons before transporting them to the hospital so they could receive medical attention.

The area was cordoned off by agents of the Secretariat of Citizen Security temporarily to facilitate the rescue of the people and prevent another incident, as the vehicle where the people were traveling ended up blocking the street.

At the scene, Municipal Traffic agents conducted forensic examinations of the events and reported that the cause of the spectacular accident occurred due to excessive speed combined with alcohol. This caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control of the steering wheel and crash into the tree.

The accident caused shock among neighbors due to the strong impact; however, the driver and his two companions survived, although the events will remain recorded in their memory and they will have a story to tell their children or grandchildren.

Municipal Traffic officers, after concluding with the forensic experts, ordered the wrecked unit to be towed to an impound lot for safekeeping while they assessed the material damages and determined liability.
