Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A van belonging to the Tiburones del Caribe taxi union in Tulum was completely destroyed by fire Saturday evening at the entrance to the Puerto Aventuras municipal office.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. as the van was reportedly heading toward Tulum. A mechanical failure is believed to have sparked the fire in the engine compartment.

Passengers and the driver evacuated the vehicle safely. Bystanders attempted to extinguish the flames but were unsuccessful.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to put out the fire, but the van was a total loss. No injuries were reported.

Civil protection personnel conducted an investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
