Cancún’s Nichupté Bridge Nears Completion with Final Adjustments

Construction progress of the Nichupté Bridge in Cancún showing structural work

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, one of the most significant infrastructure projects for mobility in Cancún, remains in its final construction phase with progress exceeding 92 percent. Expectations persist regarding its inauguration, initially scheduled for late January, though no official date has been confirmed as the month draws to a close.

The construction of the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge has undergone various stages of advancement, calendar adjustments, and budget expansions since its commencement in August 2022, when it began with an originally estimated investment of just over 5 billion pesos.

By March 2025, the project had recorded progress exceeding 70 percent with more than 6.4 km of the main 8.8 km constructed, including intelligent transportation systems, lane sections, a bike path, and lighting. By June of that year, the project was around 79 percent physically complete and remained on track for a projected opening in December 2025.

However, due to final technical work and adjustments in finishes and monitoring systems, an additional investment of 400 million pesos was announced to close these details, with the goal of opening the bridge in January 2026.

At the end of December 2025, authorities reported that the project exceeded 92 percent completion, with key sections such as the Colosio interchange and land areas reaching figures above 98 percent, while other segments—such as the metallic arch and the section over the lagoon—approached 90 percent. The main structures are finished, and the project is undergoing its final phase of testing, finishes, and safety review.

With a total length of 11.2 km and three traffic lanes—one reversible—the bridge will cross the Nichupté lagoon connecting Colosio Boulevard with Kukulcán, and is expected to reduce travel times by up to 45 minutes during high season.

In addition to its impact on urban and tourist mobility, the project will be free for users and will function as a vital alternate route during contingencies or emergencies.
