Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo — The municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto has launched a creative competition inviting families to decorate soccer balls as artworks, with cash prizes up to 10,000 pesos, as part of preparations for the upcoming World Cup.
The “Decora tu balón” (Decorate Your Ball) initiative aims to promote local talent by having participants design and physically execute unique projects on soccer balls. Contestants can use materials ranging from textiles and plant fibers to popular paint and papier-mâché, blending technical skill with intergenerational knowledge transfer from grandparents to grandchildren.
Entries will be judged on four criteria: quality of finish (35%), design innovation (25%), collaborative effort among family members (30%), and the symbolic value of the story accompanying the work (10%).
Projects must be submitted directly to the municipal Sistema para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) offices in locations including Bacalar, Cozumel, Puerto Morelos, Tulum, and Benito Juárez. Each participant will receive a folio number upon submission.
The top three state-level designs will advance to the national Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (SNDIF). Winners will receive 10,000 pesos for first place, 8,000 pesos for second, and 5,000 pesos for third.

- March 9–13: Reception, evaluation, and selection of three representative balls per municipality at local DIF offices.
- March 16–20: Submission of 33 finalist balls from Quintana Roo’s 11 municipalities to the state DIF office.
