Tizimín, Yucatán — The detention of Efrén Alamilla, known as “El Conejo”, represents one of the most significant blows to security in Tizimín in recent years. He is not only an alleged drug dealer but an operator of organized crime who, according to multiple citizen reports and police records, allegedly enjoyed protection from state and municipal authorities for years, allowing him to consolidate an active criminal structure in eastern Yucatán.
Under this alleged veil of impunity, “El Conejo” managed to move freely while maintaining a network of home robberies, store robberies, and drug distribution, crimes that repeatedly went unresolved despite being fully identified by victims and local authorities.
His recidivism, constant access to information, and ability to evade criminal proceedings reinforced the perception that he enjoyed institutional privileges that hindered any action against him.
The relevance of his capture lies precisely in this contrast: a criminal detained several times, always released, and now finally secured by federal forces after an operation that broke the chain of complicity that had kept him untouchable.
His criminal record and the repeated occasions on which he regained his freedom despite previous arrests reinforced the perception of institutional protection to the direct detriment of the Tizimín community.
The federal operations began in the early morning, with the securing of perimeters and coordinated movements to execute search warrants linked to alleged drug distribution points.
The operation was carried out on Calle 49B between 28 and 30 in San José Nabalam, where “El Conejo Alamilla” was finally detained. Federal sources confirmed the seizure of several kilos of marijuana and crystal meth, as well as other evidence that remains under ministerial custody.
A Familiar Face: ‘El Conejo’ Always Falls… and Always Returns
This Thursday’s capture again exhibits a pattern that worries authorities and residents of Tizimín; the alleged drug dealer has been detained on several occasions but has always regained his freedom.
The most recent case occurred on July 13, 2024, when Municipal Police officers caught him handling drugs inside a Gran Marquiz car with license plate ZBK-127-E. On that occasion, he was carrying:
- 77 bags of crystal meth,
- 10 bags with LSD,
- and two bags with approximately 500 grams of marijuana each.
He attempted to flee; abandoned the vehicle; was pursued and detained. Even so, he was released shortly after, fueling the perception of possible protection, complicity, or systematic failures that prevent the processes from advancing.
Neighbors consulted by Diario CAMBIO 22 indicated that the detainee’s recidivism reflects a problem that has been occurring silently for years:
“They always catch him and he always returns. We don’t know who protects him, but it’s evident that nothing ever happens,” commented a resident of San José Nabalam.
The seized drugs, along with “El Conejo Alamilla”, were transferred to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, where his legal situation will be determined.
Residents of Tizimín hope that this time the cycle of detentions without consequences will be broken and that the case will advance without interference.
