Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, visited the municipality of Tulum for a second time to supervise the progress of initiatives aimed at boosting tourism in the area.
A statement released to the public confirmed that she met with Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa in a meeting that included representatives from the hotel, restaurant, commercial, nautical, union, taxi, and artisan sectors, as well as vendors.
"We put our pencils to the paper, we listened firsthand, we exchanged concerns, data, insights, and the needs of civil society, hoteliers, merchants, service providers, transport unions, restaurateurs, artisans, tour guides, and cultural promoters, alongside federal and state authorities, to make strategic and precise decisions with the commitment and full willingness of the government of Mexico under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo," said the governor.
She added that this exchange of information with local stakeholders "will allow us to more efficiently enhance this burgeoning tourist destination, so that everyone can continue to enjoy the most beautiful beaches of the Mexican Caribbean and so that shared prosperity continues to reach every family in Tulum."
The visits by federal authorities to Tulum occurred following the circulation of images depicting an empty tourist destination, as well as accusations of abuses against visitors and citizens, in addition to the controversial video from Municipal President Diego Castañón regarding restrictions for entering the beaches.
