Cancún, Quintana Roo — A fatal traffic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Huayacán Avenue, before reaching Federal Highway 180, where a worker performing cleaning duties lost his life after being run over.
According to official information, the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m., when a gold-colored Volkswagen Vento, driven by a woman, was traveling from north to south in the left lane of that roadway.
Allegedly, the driver attempted to merge into the right lane without taking proper precautions, causing her to crash into containment barriers and lose control of the vehicle, running over four people who were performing cleaning work on the public road.
As a result of the impact, one of the workers died at the scene, while three others were injured, prompting a rapid mobilization of emergency services and authorities.
Red Cross and Civil Protection ambulances arrived at the site to provide pre-hospital care and transport the injured to hospitals, while Transit officers cordoned off the area and conducted the corresponding investigation; the body of the deceased was removed by personnel from the Forensic Medical Service.
