Cancún, Quintana Roo — Public reports have prompted authorities to investigate Facebook pages in Cancún for alleged pedophilia, with citizens raising alarms about accounts soliciting high school students.
Residents reported suspicious activity on pages like “Amigos en Cancún,” a recently created account seeking “available” high school students. The situation has caused concern among the community about potential threats to adolescent safety.
Quintana Roo’s Public Security Department, through its Cyber Police unit, stated they have not received formal reports about the specific “Amigos en Cancún” page. Officials currently have only one formally identified case involving a profile called “La Princesa de Papá,” which they have already referred to the State Prosecutor’s Office for investigation.
The department conducts daily digital monitoring to identify similar cases and risky content. According to authorities, cyber police agents regularly patrol online spaces to detect illegal behavior and prevent potential crimes in virtual environments.
During 2025, investigators identified two groups on digital platforms: “La Princesa de Papá,” which contained an online post about alleged exchange of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), and an anonymous complaint about suspected trafficking of similar files.
The Cyber Police Directorate urged informants to file formal complaints with the Prosecutor’s Office, bringing their computers or mobile devices to ensure proper legal procedures according to current regulations.
Authorities provide guidance, encourage citizens to follow legal procedures, and refer cases to the appropriate agencies. They also notify the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Trafficking and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents for necessary actions.
The state Security Department reiterated calls to report suspicious situations through official channels, emphasizing that citizen collaboration is crucial for protecting children on social media. Officials also urged families to supervise device use and promote preventive dialogue at home.
The Cyber Police made available the telephone number 99 88 91 40 51, operational 24 hours a day for calls and reports via WhatsApp.
